What is a Public Adjuster?
Since the rash of hurricanes that blew through the state 10 years ago, public adjusters have become a more prominent alternative for policyholders who are dissatisfied with their claim results. Basically a public adjuster who is experienced in detailing with insurance companies and insurance policies and tries to dissect and interpret the policy in your favor to maximize your claim.
Sounds great right?
Well, they don’t work for free so before signing up with them you should read the contract and see how much they will take from your total. As in all professions, there are some that are not as legitimite in their dealings as others.Theses are the ones that will promise you a new roof for a broken tile or new appliances for a leak in your fridge. As always do your research.
As far as agents and insurance companies go,public adjusters receive a wide variety of responses. There is one company who will refuse to write in certain communities because a public adjuster has swamped the area with claims promising policyholders big money. As an agent once a client gets a public adjuster we have to treat it like an attorney, any questions go through him.
So tread carefully before signing over your rights to anyone who is in charge of your insurance claims. In my experience most Insurance adjusters who work for the company try and help the customer as much as they can.
